The WHOI Corporation
A Vibrant Community of Diverse Members
The WHOI Corporation advises and supports our mission of understanding the ocean’s influence on our planet while fostering learning and camaraderie among its members.
WHOI Corporation Members are committed to:
Advancement through annual giving that underwrites the institution’s role as an incubator and proving ground for ocean science, engineering and exploration that is among the best in the world. A good starting point for support is at the $10,000 level.
Ambassadorship that includes promoting WHOI engagement and soliciting financial support. Represent the Institution in their local communities and networks.
Advice through the devotion of time, attention, and resources to WHOI, including attending meetings and events and providing support through member areas of expertise such as marketing, finance, philanthropy and risk management.
Insider access to ocean science and technology, including invitations, private science presentations, unique tours and meetings with scientists, and special events;
Participation in twice yearly Corporation meetings at WHOI;
Global adventure travel with a purpose on expeditions around the globe with the WHOI Travel Program;
A network of like-minded people who share a passion for the ocean and science in service of society;
Non-partisan, objective information from WHOI’s ocean discovery magazine, Oceanus, and its weekly e-newsletter OceanInsights.
WHOI gear, including Corporation Member lapel pin, boating pennant, and clothing items, plus discounts at the WHOI store and at more than 250 science museums;
Recognition of member leadership in the annual report and other WHOI publications; and
An exclusive association with one of the premier organizations in the world for ocean research and to make a meaning contribution to its continued success.

Supporting Corporation Membership
No time to be an active member? Support the Corporation with a leadership donation of $10,000 or more to be listed in our annual report and other print materials.
Ocean science research has never been more urgent!
- Holds 97% of Earth’s water and is essential to all life;
- Is home to the vast majority of species on our planet;
- Feeds the world by producing 30% of global protein for 3 billion people every day, and
- Remains a resource in peril with human activity affecting the oceans in new and astounding ways.
WHOI research provides the groundwork for understanding the ocean’s future
- Framing high-profile issues with science, where unbiased understanding enables better response;
- Proposing new ways to conserve and protect ocean life, including endangered whales and coral reefs;
- Analyzing climate change and sea level rise; and
- Pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in robotics and other technologies.
